Getting Involved

Why get involved in Civil War Reenacting?

*  Great way to learn history! -- Reading history out of a textbook is one way to learn about the Civil War.  Why not experience it first-hand by reliving life in the 1860's and experiencing Civil War battles.

*  REENACTING is a FAMILY HOBBY!  -- The 145th PVI Company D welcomes many accurate impressions from the Civil War.  There is an impression for every family member, from military soldiers to drummer boys, civilian refugees to camp cooks, and seamstresses to public speakers.  What a great way to spend a weekend with the family while meeting other families who share the same interests!

*  Give it a try!  We will help you get started.  --  Many unit members, each with over 10 years experience in the hobby, will help you with everything you need to know to get started in attending your first reenactment.  We can even assist in loaning you equipment and clothing to see if you'll like the hobby.  That way there are no permanent costs invested to try it out!  Our members will help guide you in choosing the right equipment and clothing to purchase, or guide you in choosing period correct fabrics to make your own clothing!

*  You choose how active you want to be --  Our unit does not have any requirements for event attendance.  Small annual dues are collected once each year.  Therefore, you choose how many events you wish to attend each year, as well as which ones you would like to go to.

How the Application Procedure Works:

1.  Download and complete the Membership Application (click on "Membership Application" for link) and mail it back to us:

Once we receive your application, a member of our unit will contact you to answer any questions you may have and give you additional info.  The application will assist our veteran unit members in helping you get started with the right impression.  If you wish to contact us prior to us receiving your application, you may do so by emailing us via the link at the bottom of this page.

2.  Attend an event with the 145th PVI: Check out our event schedule for the season.  Notify us which event you would like to attend and we will help get you situated with loaner clothing and equipment.  This will allow you to try the hobby before making any permanent purchases to see if you like it.

3.  Attend 3 reenactments with the 145th.  After you've tried it and decided you like it, you will need to attend 3 reenactments or living histories before being voted into the membership.  All applicants will start out on probation for their first 3 events with the 145th PVI.  After their 3rd event, the applicant's membership is brought to the unit.

All new members and probationary members will work with a veteran reenactor of the unit.  They will show you the ropes on reenacting, including where to buy equipment, camping, and military drill.
